How Do I Know My Sunglasses Size?

If those numbers aren’t already on your current sunglasses, you can measure your frame dimensions with a millimeter (mm) ruler or cloth measuring tape.

• Eye size: this is the width of the lenses at the widest part. It is the most important number to pay attention to, and the range is typically between 40 – 63 mm.
• Bridge size: measures the frame between the lenses. Start at the innermost side of the lenses, and measure until the same spot on the other side of the bridge. This number will range between 14-24 mm.
• Temple size: measures the length of the temple arm of the glasses. It starts at the hinges and continues into a straight line to the farthest point without sloping down. The temple length can be between 120-150 mm.

Further measurements that might be useful include:

• Height: measures the lens from top to bottom, giving you an idea of where it will fit in relation to your eyebrow and cheek.
• Base Curve: tells you how far the frame will curve out. A 6 base curve is considered standard and will fit flatter on your face, while a base curve of 8 will have more curve and wrap around your face.

To do this, place a hard, straight ruler millimeter side up just below your eyes and measure the length from one temple to the other. If you rank at 130mm or below, your face is considered small. Medium faces have a large framework, ranging from 131mm to 140mm, and large faces are considered anything 141mm or above. As a general rule, it is best to keep the size of your sunglasses within 2mm of your face size.
